FDR had a daughter that had considerable influence in his last couple years in office. Eleanor had a way of getting on his last nerve so they were barely on speaking terms at that time.
Truman's daughter also had considerable influence.

To imagine a president totally isolated from the influence of his wife & family is tO engage in fantasy. I only raised Hillary for 2 reasons: it’s fairly recent, and it was an instance of actual policy-making power bestowed upon a family member. At the time it was unprecedented.
