We screwed the proverbial pooch when Frank was forced out at Kansas State. He was intense and got the very best out of his players and sometimes used words that weren’t meant for tv.
The man was as entertaining to watch as the game.
Now, we have a nice guy, a loser who doesn’t inspire the best from his players. Sheesh....
The profanity almost got FM booted from SC, but he cleaned up his vocabulary and was allowed to remain. He hasn’t lost that intensity, and the players seem to like him.
He seems very good about getting players to step up and play roles in the compilation of a strong team. There have been several moderately talented players over the past 4 years who have really blossomed to become good SEC level players.
I do not think it takes too much to fall from FM’s graces. Rumors have it that you do not make eye contact with coach when you are getting verbally reprimanded. One talented freshman disappeared from the roster during SEC games mid season, and has only recently reappeared.
All in all, Frank Martin is a good coach and one of the best at developing players to reach their maximum potential. It is great fun to watch his teams (usually) due to their intensity.
My Jayhawks were glad to see Frank leave Kansas State. His players were scrappers; he was a helluva motivator. I’m happy to Frank and the Gamecocks are in the sweet 16.
