I have been trying to figure that out too. He must have some dirt on President Trump is all I can guess. He should have been fired Jan 20. If Trump does not fire him soon it will be a big mistake.

I agree, he should have been shown the door, but I do not think Trump has the power to do so. Also, I was thinking that having Comey do the investigations, takes away a big Dem/Media template, that can be used in the future.
When the investigations are done and nothing is found, the Dems/Media cannot say that the outcome was decided by a Trump appointee. They can't say it was a cover-up/white-wash, etc. They will try, of course, but with Comey, an Obama appointee, who obviously, has favored Dems in the past, it will be hard to do.
