The state is hoping the first-of-its-kind proposal generates interest in the profession at a time when educators are harder to come by. California legislators are hoping a proposal to eliminate income tax for teachers will help attract young people into the profession and keep them there at a time when the state is hemorrhaging educators and lacks a pipeline.

Instead of pollutint the tax code, why not just use that same money to give those teachers a raise? That would also eliminate the “problems” caused by the tax elimination method where the highest paid teachers get the largest benefit and single teachers get a bigger benefit than married ones becauce of the California tax brackets.
heh heh. You think you bought that car? You didn’t buy that.
We have friends who’s kids have passed their teaching certs in CA and can’t get full time teaching jobs. No shortages.
That, and the appalling lack of discipline and authority in the schools, plus every parent salivating to hire a lawyer on behalf of their kid.
Shell Businesses run by teachers
Why not eliminating the income tax for all NON-TEACHERS?
Yep, if any one needed to go no fed or state income taxes it should be Military especially the lower ranks. And they should get first dibs on base housing, not the Brass who can afford to live off base.
Commissaries and Exchanges need to be fixed too. $200 for a Vera Wang wallet is stupid. Cheapest things in the Exchange are shoe polish and laces. Rest are as high as high end stores. Milk is more expensive than it is at Kroger’s even with state sales tax.
Yep!
Otherwise .....DISCRIMINATION!
A retired bus driver is making just under 100K a year...Good old MBTA...(great system) love going to Boston on it....Now if MBTA does what it is thinking of...You can use commuter rail from DC to Boston soon...
The problem is that teachers are now in the top tax bracket and they are complaining about paying too much tax.
Unconstitutional
They probably took advantage of the common “percentage of the average pay of your last 4-5 years working” rule, and worked like a madman at the end, grabbing the longest runs and all the overtime and extras available.
California voted in no plastic shopping bags last time. Take your own bags or buy one from the store for 10 cents.........except for EBT people. They’re easy to spot now. Everyone else is carrying their own bags around but the cashiers are handing free paper bags to the EBT people.
You’re right .. but my comment to the Teachers’ Unions is this .. NO, YOU DON’T GET A BONUS FOR CORRUPTING THE MINDS OF OUR CHILDREN.
“EDUCATORS” Is that what they call them?
The proper word is “POLITICALLY CORRECT INDOCTRINATORS.”
Preaching...not teaching...is their chosen profession.
Florida is having a tough time attracting teachers. A big shortage the beginning of the year. They start at 30,100 dollars. Only 1-year contracts and a 100 dollar raise each year for ten years. And they wonder why they have no teachers. This is lake county which is very Republican.
California legislators meet with Mafia don’s deal to ensue.
>Taxing some groups, but not other groups for the same amount of earned income should be illegal.
“EARNED” income? How does one ‘earn’ the income made by another group, in your example??
We best start using the correct verbiage. Nothing like losing the debate from the get-go by reaffirming the Socialist lingo.
ANY income tax if amoral and subjugation, so says the 5th & 13th (the 16th and current ‘tax laws’ violate a plethora of other inalienable Rights, affirmed by Amendments, but that’s a discussion for anther time...).
Let the Left coast wallow in their electoral choices, while those that CAN leave, do (just hope\pray they aren’t the same Leftists that will infect the next community they settle upon).
