Erdogan’s ‘Justice and Development’ (AKP) party was meeting with Morsi’s ‘Freedom and Justice’ party members in both Egypt and Qatar. AKP bit off small portions over many years to reach the position they’re in now, but Morsi and his gang were both greedy and impatient.
General el Sisi isn’t an idiot - he trained at the US Army War College and the UK Joint Services Command and Staff College. He also saw what Erdogan had done with most of his General and Flag Officers (see the Ergenekon fiasco), and knew if he didn’t step up to the plate, he’d meet the same, or worse, fate.
