We are approaching Obamacare’s seven-year anniversary. During that span, the GOP attempted to cripple, defund, or repeal Obamacare with one thing in mind: using the fear of Obamacare to win elections. Now that they have the ability to actually repeal it, they’ve scrapped all past bills they allegedly supported (including a very popular full repeal bill in 2015) and gave us redistribution of the redistribution they pretended to despise.
Let’s be clear about one thing: the American Health Care Act is NOT a repeal of Obamacare. To say it repeals Obamacare is like saying they’re getting rid of a cheeseburger and replacing it with a hamburger that has cheese on it. Some of the toppings are different. They’re pushing mustard instead of mayo. They dropped the pickles altogether. Nevertheless, it’s still a cheeseburger.

The effort to dismantle obozocare was the BIGGEST LAND MINE obozo left behind. Had the hildabeast won, the GOP wouldn’t be burdened with that task. But the rest of us would be saddled with the damn thing in perpetuity after it morphed into single payer as it was designed to do. God help the sane Pubbies up there as they attempt to untie this ghastly Gordian Knot.
As planned by obozo, pelosi, et al, anyone attempting to sort out the mess is trapped between the conservatives who will demand a complete free market solution and the voting public who will insist that they not be denied ANY of the UNREALISTIC BS benefits obozo LIED about when it came out. Oh, did I mention that, per the close November POPULAR election tally, about HALF the voters out here are STILL DEMOCRATS who will go apecrap if the Pubbies even hint that they will not get obozo’s promised freebies!
This situation may have some of these guys in DC willing to swap being involved in this thing for the relative pain free joys of a few weeks on the rack!
We are dangerously close to a total derail unless the RINOCARE is defeated. We don’t want to pay for other peoples insurgence premiums wit tax credits— WONT HAPPEN. We don’t want to do preexisting conditions on OUR groups. THAT IS NOT FAIR!! You don;t pay for Car insurance so some jack ass can have a wreck and buy the next day!. Phase 1 will end Obamacare. The Senate rules for reconcilation with a Budget require what is being done to enable ending Obamacare with just 51 votes. Any other technique would allow filibusters and require 60 votes. No Democrat will vote for repeal.

But we have the moral high ground. Right now. For a while. Kinda like right after 9/11. We coulda nuked mecca, medina, etc. and the world woulda thought that sucks, the US, shouldn’t have don’t that, but whatever; medda, medina kinda had it coming.

Not addressing the strategy of these bills, just the BIG PICTURE that the REPUBLICAN PARTY WITH FULL CONTROL would refuse to STOMP THE COMMUNIST DEMOCRATS over some made up NONSENSE about 51 versus 60 votes.

It is columns like this one that have brought to nation to the brink where it is today. yes much of what this man Rucker is saying is true, but his bottom lines a fraud. What he says his Federalist Party would do (repeal Obamacare and replace it with something much better) cannot be done––and I’m certain he has the sense enough to understand that point.
In short, the Senate needs 60 votes to pass anything along that line. They have 52. The Ryan bill is what they call “phase one”. that can pass because it is only a budget reconciliation bill and requires only 51 votes. But when that’s passed it allows Tom Price as Secretary HHS to make many “administrative” changes via regulations. That’s “phase two”.
the big enchilada is “phase three”, but that again takes 60 votes. The 60 votes are not there now, but they may well be there after phase one and phase two kick in. There will be much disruption with health care policies at that point in time, so the thinking has to be that a number of Democrats (8?) will want to get on board if they hope to survive the next election.
The alternative to this three phase approach into use the nuclear option (abandon the Senate filibuster) for legislation. If they did that it would be suicide for the nation. There would be no difference in the Senate and the House, so if the Democrats ever gain control again, it will be absolutely over.
The Ryan plan may not be great, but it’s the only one that is viable––assuming one wants to ultimately repeals Obamacare.
Our uniparty leadership never had a real proble with obamacare in the first place.
