Given the fact that Minnesota is the number one destination for refugee in the United States, the Center wanted to figure out how the refugee resettlement program worked and how much it was costing taxpayers. We thought this would be a straightforward exercise. Wrong.
We also wanted to be able to report how the Program was working, judged by the goals of integration it sets forth (learning English and other helpful skills so at least adult men, and women without children can work, and the children go to school).
Are refugees getting to work and becoming taxpayers?
working out?
We cannot tell you with any certainty today what kind of upfront investment Minnesota is making, but what we can tell you is that the benefit side of the equation is in doubt.
What we can say with certainty is that with regard to work, and how welfare dependency affects long-term prospects for successful integration and tax-paying work, culture matters. Culture is everything.
According to the Office of Refugee Resettlement 2014 report to Congress, 48.5% of refugees are working. This statistic, however, misrepresents differences across nationalities and cultures.
Nationally, only 37.1% of Middle Eastern refugees are employed compared to 74.5% of Latin American refugees. When evaluated for region of origin the reader can see clear disparities between nationalities. These numbers are especially important if you look at the demographics of incoming refugees.
Minnesota has not given them data on Minnesota
Just because there working does not mean there not collecting welfare...
Refugees should only be settled in states that are fighting the pause. Hawaii should receive all 1,250 from Australia
Minnesota is NUTS!!!!!! They laud the fact that state agencies are so “diverse”. Well I can tell you from personal experience, there are some departments that are so diverse that there have LITERALLY been tribal wars between the different African tribes employed there...AND>..lets not even go into them having the call to prayer going off on their damned cell phones during the work day! It is a freakin MESS!!!!!! Their English is broken at best, but they sure as hell know how and when to use the words “Entitled” and “My Rights” (makes me want to vomit!)
They are not refugees. Invaders is more like it and/or freeloaders.
Yes, refugees that go back to their homelands to visit family and vacation. LOL
When my grandparents emigrated to the US from Germany in 1927 (fleeing the terrible unrest, rioting, crime and hyperinflation in Weimar Republic Germany), nobody conducted surveys to see who was working. If you didn’t work, you starved. Simple as that.
And the Germans, Poles, Italians, Irish et al who got here were DAMN happy to be here, learn English, and become Americans. Not too much of that ethos going around these days.
Minnesota Nice = Swedish Nice...and we see how well that is working out.
OK then.
Bump
“DIVERSE”. A far cry from the “melting pot” that created the once great USA. Look how they manipulate people with words - particularly the all purpose word “RACIST!”.
More German than Swedish in MN. Almost 4 times as many Minnesotans trace their ancestry to Germany than to Sweden. Sweden even falls behind the the Norwegians and the Irish.

Probably more Swedes and Norwegians in Minnesota than any other state though, so they do probably have more effect on the Minnesota culture than any other state.
My mom is from MN, and I lived there a couple of times when my dad was deployed overseas. This is just Minnesota trying to ignore the outside world. When I lived there, 99% were white, if you exclude the residents of the rez, and most, like me, were of Northern European descent. People were nice, and others were nice to you, as it was expected. However, except for military types and the odd businessman, people didn’t travel outside the US, and most didn’t go outside the upper Midwest. It just doesn’t occur to people there that people from some other cultures can be lazy and mean and don’t care what you think about that. The new generation, and not their parents in power now, are figuring this out, but it will be too late I fear.
>Nationally, only 37.1% of Middle Eastern refugees are employed
That is due to the filthy islam males who make “their” women work while they talk, rape, pillage, bow to mecca etc.
islam should be shunned like NAZIism and other filthy disgusting bad ideas.
I’m a compassionate person but I would deport any practicing islamist or anyone dabbling in its evil.
Send them to the nearest islamic sand dune or jungle nest. Then nuke the nests if they try to escape and spread their filth.
Exactly. There should be ZERO welfare safety net for first generation immigrants. Many countries require you to put a large sum of money in one of their banks or have proven guaranteed pension income even to take up residence. No way do they let you stay if you can’t support yourself.
The idea that we encourage people who have nothing — no money, no needed skills — to come suck on the teat of government programs is just stupid. Equating these people to the immigrants of last century is disingenuous propaganda on the part of Dims who just want dependents who will vote for bigger government.
It is kind of shocking to us that there is no way to measure the cost or effectiveness of government programs. Libs couldn’t care less, tough. It is someone’s pet theory that there is a net benefit, therefor data is unnecessary.
I read where the later generations of those immigrants, trying to find their roots, couldn't, because their ancestors didn't want anything to do with the Old Country and didn't keep any records.
