A federal jury Thursday convicted a former Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer for making false statements, harboring an undocumented immigrant and multiple counts of bribery, U.S. Attorney for New Jersey Paul Fishman said in a statement.
Arnaldo Echevarria, 39, of Somerset, who worked as a deportation officer, obtained employment authorization documents for immigrants in the country illegally in exchange for bribes totaling $75,000. In one case, Echevarria received sex in exchange for the documents.
His attorney, Michael Koribanics, said he was reviewing the documents and that an appeal of the decision was likely.
