In a reminder that there are actually rational people living in The Peoples Republic of Vermont, the voters of Rutland have just turned out their incumbent mayor, Chris Louras, after he attempted to deluge their town with Muslim refugees from Syria and Iraq. While ignoring the publics deep discontent with our governments refugee resettlement programs-when not imputing racism and bigotry to Americans who express reservations about these schemes-is the norm, even the alternative weekly was forced to concede the enormous political consequences of this decision.
-For those of you who were wondering whatever happened to the thousands of unaccompanied minors who were allowed to enter into this country, wonder no more. According to an in-depth backgrounder from the Center for Immigration Studies, our government has absolutely no clue what its doing. While over 80 percent of their sponsors are illegal aliens, 44 percent of the UACs in question were ordered deported. Have the vast majority of these children been deported? Of course not, silly!

It seems, IIUC, that two Syrian families made it into Rutland under the wire. I hope that is not a beachhead for starting a “chain immigration” pattern, which is what they usually do-the first ones over then bring in their extended family, who bring in more extended family, etc etc etc. Not to mentIon false documents for the ones who aren’t truly family, stating that they are.
I hope that President Trump’s great idea of merit-based immigration gets a fair look, as long as that’s not just another way to displace American workers from their jobs with foreigners, whom the displaced American employees often have the added indignity of being required to train them.
If the gov could do something to end family reunification as a governing policy, curtail refugee resettlement, and address guest-worker abuses, merit-based immigration-or a points policy-would be worth investigating, IMO.
