The same way gun manufacturers need to be sued when someone murders someone with a gun? Or automobile manufacturers when someone is killed by a drunk driver?

Sorry - I disagree - we should punish the perpetrators, not make lawyers rich.

Seemed clear that speedy was talking about companies who's employee's commit crimes while on the job.

A customer that murders someone with a gun who is not an employee of that gun manufacturer is an entirely different scenario.

Sorry I disagree. Not the same kind of comparison.

The person who murders with a gun or kills with a car is not the employee (or independent contractor) of the gun manufacturer or auto manufacturer.

Apples and oranges comparison.

not the same thing at all.

guns and autos are not initiating the action they do.

Uber hires live people who have pasts and minds and make choices. Proper background checks and vetting are necessary, they are not taking their company’s future seriously if they do not do thorough checks and all else needed to ensure their drivers are decent and responsible people who can do the job properly and without adverse incident(s) to their Uber customers.
