And some astute people will drop their coverage for 62 days at a time and save themselves a lot of money in the process.

There are many places to watch the White House briefing live other than the lame stream media. Like Foxnews, or Youtube.

NBC is one of the Trump bashers.

No one is FORCING companies to sell across sate lines,... they were PREVENTED from doing so in the past.

This was/is one of the single biggest barriers to competition

And i don’t know why they wouldn’t. What company wants to NOT sell insurance?

Same things with covering children until 26. The issue was FORCING employee-sponsored plans to cover children until 26 at subsidized rates.

But if the new bill just ALLOWS it, most insurance companies I’m sure will be happy to sell you a family plan covering young adults, at the appropriate cost to cover the risk pool. Just like car insurance now.

And if you remove the restriction will you then force them to sell across state lines?

Insurance is a (voluntary, not mandatory) financial service that is regulated at the state level.

Each state has different laws that must be adhered to if you want to sell financial services to their residents.

Insurance companies will usually own a separate subsidiary for each state they choose to operate in.

It must be cost-effective or they don't.

Are you dense?

They WANT TO sell across state lines

No one is FORCING them to, no one WILL BE forcing them to... they are removing the restriction that prevented them from doing so.

Now ... before you ask (again) if they will be forced to sell across state lines READ SENTENCES 1, 2, and 3 over and over until they sink in.

They WANT TO sell across state lines

Then why don't they? Go to the state they want to do business in, establish their network of providers, register with the state insurance commissioners, and go to town.

The doesn't prevent them from doing any such thing. An insurance company can operate in every state in the U.S. -- which is why you see Blue Cross/Blue Shield all over the place.

The state regulatory process, however, means that a company has to meet different requirements in each state -- so you can't sell a Mississippi insurance plan in New York, or example. New York insurance policies are notoriously expensive, but that's because New York is notorious for having very tight requirements for insurance companies to make sure they are financially solvent and will never fail to pay a claim. If you are a New York insurance company and you've been financially strong for 100 years, you're just a baby in the industry among some companies that go back all the way to the 1790s.

Really? Then how come Cigna is in every state? Aetna? Humana? United Health Care? How come the local Blue Cross/Blue Shield of KC sells in Kansas and Missouri? Are they all breaking the law?
