YONGSAN GARRISON, Republic of Korea --- U.S. Forces Korea continued its progress in fulfilling the Republic of Korea (ROK) U.S. Alliance decision to install a Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) on the Korean Peninsula as the first elements of the THAAD system arrived in the ROK.
North Koreas repeated nuclear and ballistic missile tests have underscored the importance of the Alliance decision to deploy THAAD. Work continues to operationalize THAAD as quickly as possible.
The timely deployment of the THAAD system by U.S. Pacific Command and the Secretary of Defense gives my command great confidence in the support we will receive when we ask for reinforcement or advanced capabilities, said Gen. Vincent K. Brooks, U.S. Forces Korea commander.
THAAD is a missile defense system aimed solely at defending the ROK against North Korea missiles. THAAD is strictly a defensive system.
A THAAD system will enhance Alliance missile defense capabilities and add to a layered missile defense against North Korean missile threats.

Gronk want THAAD!
I like it. Anything that might piss off the Norks is fine by me.
THADD GONNA GET THOSE NORKS.
Gen. Gary Luck wanted THAAD in Korea back in 1994. But BJ said no.

My theory has always been you shoot missiles and I defend them, I get to shoot back. If you cannot defend them, oh well.
This should also be Israel’s response to Iran.
So much for your much bragged about artillery, Kim.
Japan needs to get THAAD, or an Israeli system, or make one of it’s own, as the recent missile test’s by the North Korean dictators showed.
By targeting Japan, the North hopes to get at U.S. military bases there AND provoke the Japanese, because it thinks it can count on general Korean (north & south) animosity toward Japan, and Chinese animosity toward Japan, to attempt to mute any response by Japan if ONLY targets in Japan are hit. It will take immediate and massive responses from the U.S. and South Korea to disabuse the north of such notions.
That is Theater High Alititude Air Defence. I worked on it back in the 90s at LMSC.
Yjis will have no effect on NK tube artillery.
