I’m 71, most of the classic music I listened to as a teen, were black groups, i.e., the “Coasters”, the “Platters”, BB King, Freddie King, Sam Cooke, James Brown, Nat King Cole, et al.
Music, is music...either you like the genre, or you don’t. I also liked Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Bobby Darin, and the Beach Boys.
In my “band years”, as lead guitarist, we played mostly rhythm and blues.
I like SOME of ALL music (except Rap, which is bitching to a beat), but I don’t like ALL of any genre of music.
Music is very personal, to most everyone. We don’t filter it through a “race” filter, or a “class” filter...we either like it, or we don’t.
NPR is full of $6/+.
Yup. We even backed up the Coasters WAY BACK in the mid ‘60’s. I’ll be 70 in June but I still jam 3 nights a week at various bars around town. Helps keep my young. Play funk one night, classic rock as part of the “core band” on Wed and then on Thur a blues jam. Play with several “brothers and sisters” on Funk night. No problem as long as I keep the rhythm right and righteous. ;-)
