Sounds like people need to look into a mechanical "kill" switch to completely disconnect the battery and alternator from the electrical system of the car. The computer might have battery backup, but without the electrical system, the spark plugs won't fire and the fuel pump won't pump fuel. This would, at a minimum, take the engine out of the equation.
