House Republicans release long-awaited ObamaCare replacement bill

House Republicans on Monday evening released the text of their long-awaited ObamaCare replacement bill, calling to eliminate the myriad taxes and penalties tied to the original legislation while still preserving certain patient protections

The bill, called the American Health Care Act, can be read online at readthebill.gop.

The sweeping legislation would repeal ObamaCare’s taxes along with the so-called individual and employer insurance mandates. It also would repeal the Affordable Care Act’s subsidies, replacing them with tax credits for consumers

“We begin by repealing the awful taxes, the mandate penalties and the subsidies in ObamaCare,” House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Kevin Brady, R-Texas, told Fox News’ “Special Report with Bret Baier” in an exclusive interview.

Asked about some conservatives’ concerns that GOP leaders are merely pushing ‘ObamaCare Lite,’ Brady countered, “It is ObamaCare gone.”

The first test for GOP leaders, who have been under heavy pressure ever since President Trump took office to release a bill, will be whether the text satisfies the influential conservative wing of the party – which has the numbers to torpedo the legislation. But it is a balancing act, as moderate Republican lawmakers, as well as governors of both parties, also have warned against going too far in rolling back consumer protections and benefits.

I can't veto it, and neither can you.

Only the president can veto it and he will if he doesn't like it.

They could write another one the next time they win Congress if you want to play the ‘what if’ game. No law is permanent.

Trump killed the mandate.

It's enshrined as a "Requirement to maintain minimum essential coverage" in the Internal Revenue Code (5000A).

President Trump tweeted positively about this, so I think they’re coordinating with him.

I did vote for my rep in the congressional election, and I did vote for President Trump in the general election, but not in the primary.

Are you going to sit the midterm election out? I wont, unless something happens where I won't be able to vote. God willing I will vote for President Trump's reelection in 2020

Just the opposite. He gave the taxpayer the option of complying with it. It's dead, Jim!

Without a penalty it’s meaningless, however I do agree it would’ve been better to simply strike the entire section instead of amending fines. As such, it is fishy.

Yeah, but remember, it’s “repeal and replace.” The repealed penalties have been replaced with others.

Then why is “repealing the mandate” in the new bill?....trust me, they wont ever try this again....forcing someone to buy government insurance...they saw what it did to them politically. Executive orders can be reversed,,,,do your home work.

REPLACE is not REPEAL

No repeal yet. Remember “No Repeal” in 2018.

Then why is “repealing the mandate” in the new bill?.

That's called a strawman argument. It has nothing to do with Trump's EO killing the mandate by making it optional which is the opposite of a mandate.

I did my homework and showed you that you were 180 degrees wrong about Trump's EO. As I said before any law can be reversed. Or eliminated. Or re-written. What ifs are for kids.

I’m a fan of repeal period.

Gov is what screwed it up to begin with.

repealing the mandate with an EO means the next dem potus can reinstate it if the bill is not repealed. any EO can be reversed by an EO.
