The scene near the end where he flushes the toilet and expects to see blood coming back at him was classic cinema. Maybe Coppola’s best work after “The Godfather.”

Yeah it's been a long since I've seen this movie - will have to dig it up. Always thought interesting that it had Cindy Williams - aka Shirley Feeney in it.
Also, always had a personal thought that Hackman's character was very similar to Hackman's role in Enemy of the State. Did some poking around and found that evidently, Tony Scott (Director of EOTS) and Jerry Brukeheimer (Producer) page homage to The Conversation by having Hackman's character in EOTS repeat his quickerness by also wearing a plastic raincoat, even in sunny weather, had a Faraday Cage in a warehouse to prevent electronic eavesdropping, and get this, use the same photograph of Hackman in the NSA profile picture. Thought that was pretty cool.
Some even go so far as to say that EOTS is essentiaonally a sequel to The Conversation with Harry Caul having assumed a new identity. Both good movies.
