The amount of homes that don't own a TV has at least doubled since 2009. According to the USEI survey, 2.6% of American homes didn't have a TV in 2015. That's a huge increase from the 1.3% of American homes that didn't have a television in 2009.
In fact, from 1997 to 2009, the percentage remained stable at 1.3%, except for 2001, when the percentage was 1.2%.
The huge surge in homes without TVs proves that companies making TV content can't ignore that viewers are turning to other screens, such as computers and mobile devices,
...
The survey also shows that homes that do own TVs are using fewer of them. There is an average of 2.3 TVs in an American home, down from 2.6 per household in 2009.
...
TV networks have been fearing this shift away from traditional viewing for years and have been slow to act on it. Streaming offerings like Netflix and Hulu are providing fans with their favorite shows and availability across multiple devices.

It’s hard to believe people still use that old school manipulated medium made for morons.
Yup!
TV’s will soon be seen like landlines, Sears, Macy’s, BlockBuster Video, BestBuy:
Gone or on it’s last legs.
KILL YOUR TV.
I haven’t had one in over 12 years.
When do I miss it?
For Prez debates, and maybe the Superbowl.
I DO NOT MISS ANYTHING ELSE AT ALL.
TV people are basically from a very strongly anti-USA foreign country.
Boys should mince and cry, girls should take chances, be inspiring and heroic.
Kids should be sage, parents should wet their pants.
God is a disgusting concept, collectivism is the ONLY way, and WE CAN’T WAIT UNTIL IT’S HERE..!!!
Sorry, you cannot change people THAT crazy.
KILL YOUR TV.
My favorite channels are Free Republic and Hickok45. I don’t need a TV.
This is why Trump won. Keep it up.
Maybe they mean some sort of cable or satellite subscription. There’s probably people with multiple TVs that don’t have subscriptions to those.
There are maybe 3 channels that I even sort of watch and I can get DVDs or find some on youtube.
Other than Alabama games, the Super Bowl, and election night, I don’t watch TV. I grow numb to it after about 5 minutes.
The liberal networks have to be suffering. Good for them.
My TV is only used to watch Netflix movies. I haven’t watched TV programs in almost 40 years. They are stupid, dirty, and a waste of time as far as I am concerned.
I am entering my ninth year TV Free - no regrets. I can watch old westerns/film noir, etc. free on youbetube.
My PC/DVD player is for days when I want to re-watch ‘The Outlaw Josey Wales’ (for an example) as I did this afternoon! 8^)
A 65 inch monitor is not considered a tv, is it?
I’m hooked on TWB - had to binge through 6 seasons. I stream it through Amazon. Have to pay. Don’t care.
We have three TV’s, none with dish or satellite connections. One is in my grandsons bedroom and is for their XBox only for racing and sports games, one is in the office and always set on ION, one is in the den and always set to the Justice channel. All our news comes from FR and Drudge.
I have been without ‘TV’ for over 20 years.
Read a book.
Walk the dog.
Work in the shop.
Life is good.
I think it is really helpful to read political articles and "news" in plain black and white like here at FR. I don't watch screamers on tv trying to emotionally manipulate me.
I hve a tv and I use it for netflix. The only time I used it for network tv in the last couple ofyears was to watch election returns on fox channel. I do not have cable. There is simply nothing on tv any more of any value and I sure as hell am not going to watch network news.
I killed my television in 2009, and don’t miss it.
My boob tube’s been dead for years, too many commercials. It’s always on everywhere in hospital, annoying. At least the wifi is free there!
