The state of Arkansas plans to put to death eight inmates over a span of 10 days next month, a pace of executions unequaled in recent American history and brought about by a looming expiration date for a drug used by the state for lethal injections.
The eight men facing execution four black and four white are among 34 death row inmates in Arkansas, where capital punishment has been suspended since 2005 over legal challenges and difficulty in acquiring the drugs for lethal injections.
All eight men were convicted of murders that occurred between 1989 and 1999, and proponents of the death penalty and victims rights in the state have been frustrated that the cases have dragged on so long. (snip)
Brian Stull, a senior staff attorney with the American Civil Liberties Union, argued that something was more likely to go wrong with so many executions scheduled so close together.
Each of these prisoners is a person with rights that have to be honored, and each execution is a process that needs to be planned and handled with care and close attention to detail, he said. And thats just impossible for Arkansas on this schedule. Because theyre trying to do too much, too quickly, with too little preparation. Its likely to lead to botched executions.

“Arkansas Rushes to Execute 8 Men”
Yeah. Executing murderers for murders that occurred decades ago is “rushing”.
The NYT is only against killing when it a citizen protecting himself or his family, a US soldier fighting our enemies in a Congressionally declared war, or when executing criminals who have been convicted by a jury of their peers of a capital crime. (Perhaps I should also include police officers who are forced to shoot criminals in order to stop them from killing or inflicting grave bodily harm on others. The NYT is against this too.)
If it is a matter of killing unborn babies, the NYT and the political / religious left are all for it.
If it is a matter of killing recently-born babies, the NYT and the political / religious left are all for it.
If it is a matter of killing the handicapped and disabled, the NYT and the political / religious left are all for it.
If it is a matter of killing Christians and Jews, the NYT and the political / religious left are all for it.
If it is a matter of killing the elderly, the NYT and the political / religious left are all for it.
If it is a matter of killing whites for being white, the NYT and the political / religious left are all for it.
If it is a matter of killing cops, the NYT and the political / religious left are all for it.
But if it is matter of murders receiving the consequence of their actions, the NYT and the political / religious left believe any consequence at all is a “rush” to judgement.
Take seized heroin or cocaine that’s scheduled to be destroyed and have a pharmacist compound up some highly lethal doses. Two problems solved.
“Roll on 2” Alternative to lethal injection. And... DO forget to wet the sponges with saline. Mr. Jingles will thank you every day, for what cruel evil people have done being made to pay.
Sigh, for government to execute should make us think. I think a few minutes into the crime report and families devastated and my head is set straight. There is evil and there should be consequences to evil.
If there’s trouble obtaining the drugs just fall back on lead poisoning: quick & guaranteed lethal.
