I would speculate that Obama would be insulated by a few layers, but lest we forget, they were pretty convinced they would win the election.
You don’t accuse the King without absolute proof. Trump knows that, but I don’t think the rats know it. Notice the difference in wording here. They refer to the “Trump campaign” and “people connected to the campaign.” The accusation against Trump is inferred - not direct.
This is a direct shot by the sitting President against the former President. Nobody takes that shot without proof.
We are all speculating here, but reading between the lines it appears the FISA court may have been approached regarding a tenant in Trump Tower (a Russian bank). If they expanded that to other offices in Trump Tower to include the campaign HQ and the transition offices that is likely the source of the wiretapping. This would represent illegal activity on the part of the administration and intelligence services who carried this out.
That is the electronic version of Watergate.

This is the stuff of potential criminal indictments. The reaction by team Obama to this will speak volumes. The reality of the FISA courts and the NSA eavesdropping is that it is always accompanied by a paper trail. A big paper trail. The people who actually execute such orders know that it is against the law to destroy the documents and remember, the court itself keeps copies of the orders. Trump now has access to these. All it takes is a whistleblower or two if the documents were destroyed (a felony in and of itself), but a papertrail would still exist with the courts.
The ramifications of this cannot be overstated. Nobody, much less a chess player like Trump, would make such an accusation without the proof in hand. You just don’t drop the equivalent of a twitter nuclear bomb because you woke up and felt like it. This is the most serious revelation to date of the Trump Presidency.
Wikileaks obtained bulk emails either by a person who leaked or through a phishing scam on Podesta. Those were on a private email server.
This on the other hand is the direct wiretapping of an opposition party using the might and power of Federal agencies. There is no equivalency here.
