Fox News Beats CNN, MSNBC Combined In February Ratings (Huuuuuugeely)
The Hill ^

Fox News topped all other basic cable networks in total viewers for the eighth consecutive month, according to Nielsen Research.

In February, Fox earned the top spot by averaging 1.75 million total viewers throughout the broadcast day, compared to 1.15 million for Nickelodeon and 902,000 for Home and Garden Television (HGTV).

In primetime, Fox averaged 2.9 million viewers, a 31 percent increase from February of 2016.

The 21st Century-owned cable news network was also up 39 percent in the key 25-54 demographic that advertisers covet most, with 592,000 total viewers. In total viewers and the key demographic, Fox beat MSNBC and CNN in both categories combined.

Leading the way as the most-watched show in cable was "The O'Reilly Factor," which airs weeknights at 8 p.m. ET. "Tucker Carlson Tonight" was second in cable news and the fifth highest-rated program overall in cable.

Overall, Fox News had 13 of the top 15 programs in cable news.

MSNBC's "The Rachael Maddow Show" and "The Last Word with Lawrence O'Donnell" were the only non-Fox programs to break the top 15, finishing seventh and 13th, respectively.

February 2017 was the network's 182nd consecutive month as the most-watched cable news channel in total viewers. It was also the network’s highest rated month since November 2016

CNN US is propped up by CNN International, their shows are typically fed internationally with some local programming.

Actually, that is changing. When Mr. Jane Fonda-Turner owned CNN, that was operative.

But now, both CNN and MSNBC are owned by publicly-traded stock companies, and stock owners, especially the big players like retirement funds and mutual funds, have a way of asking very embarrassing questions of network management when they are both on the 14th tee at the Shelter Rock CC.

Questions such as “By the way, Sid, what can I tell my investors you are doing to reverse your 73 bazillion loss last quarter?” can ruin your entire weekend.

It takes time, but money talks, and it’s the one language all the decision makers speak, and FOX has a reeeeeeealllly big loudspeaker.

There was a big change 10 years ago. There are no longer any solely “independent” (liberal) journalistic decisions, and every decision is subject to the next morning’s overnight ratings, which translate into dollars by noon.

“Give it time, Son, give it time!”

They’ve been struggling for years. There’s something going on besides legitimate money.

So, Fox News Channel is not only the top cable news network, but the top cable network for 8 straight months, too. I guess the FR boycott isn’t going so well.

Kelly’s leaving hasn’t changed anything. Fox News has been the number one cable network for 8 months - before she left on Jan. 6, 2017. It has been the number one cable news network for years and years.

“They’ve been struggling for years. There’s something going on besides legitimate money.”

It’s BECAUSE of the ideology. CNN and MSNBC are kept on the air in spite of having low ratings, because they keep the liberal base motivated during election cycles and because the investors all believe in the liberal party line that these channels are spewing. Ideology trumps making money and getting ratings to these folks. These are propaganda channels that Goebbels would be proud of.

I’m pretty sure Shep is a catcher, not a pitcher.

And, how are YOU so certain about Shep being a catcher?

One could easily correlate the cable TV ratings, to what’s happening across the country when it comes to how voting is trending, with republicans vs democrats.

FOX could equal republicans as far as results are concerned, whereas CNN & MSNBC combined would equal the sorry state of democrat control across the country. Republicans control the presidency and the congress (both houses) and soon, POTUS, not to mention how republicans control a great majority of governorhips and most state houses and senates.

So, the sorry state of the democratic party is reflected by the sorry numbers being pulled in by CNN and MSNBC combined.

Yeah ok.

He was really effective when he was crying and spreading rumors about gang rapes, down in New Orleans, during Katrina.

If the corporate owners, or their hedge fund owners, depend on a slew of regulatory accomodations for their fortunes, then its handy to have such a media property to defend their interests. Much like Jeff Bezos does with the Wapo or Carlos Slim with NYT.

“They all suck”

Actually, I think Mr. Trump would heartily disagree. He chose to appear on O’Reilly, Hannity and others to get is message out, without paying for advertising time. A brilliant move on his part

You are spot on. As depicted in the movie Network “ in the presidential election, and in these ratings, Americans have effectively opened their windows and yelled “I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take it anymore! “
