He fully intends to keep his promises regardless, just wondering why the author thought the point needed to be made again.
Indeed.
Except his 11th-hour massive childcare entitlement given as a bauble/promise to Ivanka.
It will not only distort the market the way that government involvement in student loans—let alone outright subsidies—have simultaneously expanded and ruined our higher ed system, but it will also redistribute income to the 1%—with subsidies for those making up to $500K per year.
Also, his promises to replace Obamacare with a healthcare “plan” that looks like Congress’s latest attempt to micromanage the healthcare sector (e.g., requiring insurance firms to cover the previously uncovered with a 30% one-year surcharge) will just continue the mangling of the market.
Then there’s that 11th-hour “promise” to Ivanka re: federally mandating that employers provide paid parental leave, which is another entitlement—just privately dictated.
And, there is the idea of imposing tariffs universally, rather than if required on a bilateral basis if the trading partner won’t match our terms otherwise.
Oh, and his vague promises to be “humane” with “dreamers”, which contradicts his now broken promise to repeal Obama’s DACA order on the first day of his administration.
He in part got elected by making multiple, conflicting promises—and if he keeps the big-government/uniparty ones we’ll be in real trouble.
because it looks like he is running into opposition on repealing obamacare and he needs to get that 100% repealed.
Ivanka was a lib...so was jared....until the election....their causes are bleeding over into the mandate we gave him....if he allows amnesty...I won’t support him next time.
Because his syndication contract requires that he turn in a certain number of words so many times per week. If you've noticed that much of what is published consists of the obvious, the repetitive, or the nonsensical, this is why.
You don't get paid as a pundit for saying, "I've nothing worth saying this week. Go do some yardwork, folks!"
I’m with you—amnesty will be the end of this country.
And it sounds like he’s getting closer and closer to rolling over on what was the signature issue that got him elected.
I’ve worried several times about Trump and Amnesty, and no doubt I’ll continue to worry. However, I’m starting to believe he has a clear, long-term strategy. President Trump is deporting criminal illegals who committed any other crimes after coming here, which is a big win for America. It looks like he’s also expanding his net for who gets deported, another big win. If his strategy is to keep talking and negotiating while he creates facts on the ground, I’m a fan. If he creates a panic among those criminals and they self-deport, that’s another big win.
Amnesty is the third rail that he can never touch.
EVER.
Remember Mr President. You were not elected president of the world. You were elected to serve AMERICAN Citizens First.
No nation on earth can provide welfare to the entire world.
Not now.
Not ever.
Every time I say or type something about our current president, I take the time to include his title “President.” After 8 years of hearing the media say, with derision, “Mr. Bush, “ I am so happy to say “President Trump.”
But that still leaves about 20 million here currently that will do our country in—even if the initial stage of amnesty simply legalizes most (and reportedly already makes citizens of the “Dreamers”), all who are legalized will inevitably be made citizens shortly thereafter.
It is pretty clear that Trump tipped his hand to this strategy in his off the record lunch with the media on Tuesday—even though the explicit language of such a promise wasn’t included in his speech that night.
Yet, he has been hinting that it is something he could agree to.
Because it can't hurt to have comments like these floating around in the back of his head when his useless son in law comes along and starts pimping moronic ideas.
I do not have TDS but if I am allowed to speculate I will. If President Trump goes amnesty it will be a mega disaster on many, many fronts. We are talking the potential for secession and/or war.
While I don't expect President Trump to pay off the U.S. debt in 8 years I would prefer that he not double it like his predecessor did.
So do I.
