Currently, when we ship products out of America, many other countries make their own people pay very high tariffs and taxes but when foreign companies ship their products into America, we charge our consumers almost nothing.

Again I think he is presuming we realize this hurts our international competitiveness. But this is not stupid , it’s common sense.

expect for increased social welfare costs, higher incone taxes, destroyed industrial infra structure, loss of technical knowledge and massive unemployment.Fixed it for ya Jim! No charge.

No, it’s not common sense to shoot yourself in the foot because somebody else does.
But as I say, I think at some point, we’ll get back on track: letting the free market economy work its “invisible hand” to create the “wealth of nations” (Adam Smith).
