One of the reasons this should be prosecuted is the harm done to children producing the images.

Isn't it a question of priorities?
Volunteers worldwide do a great job of exposing thought crimes.
Doesn't it make sense to focus official law enforcement limited resources to immediate threats of actual physical crimes and criminal activity?

Thinking about child pornography is what would be a thought crime.

Or crimes already committed, such as the producing or selling of child pornography.

I should have added that I agree, possession of or viewing child pornography should indeed be a crime, accessory after the fact.

Pedophiles who have been found guilty of child rape should be executed. And that includes those who produce c. pornography.
