When we enlist or receive our commission, we signed away our lives for the cause of these United States. Never was there any guarantee of surviving. Military life is replete with terminal actions based upon mundane operations, in fact, every time I sat in the Prowler I flew with the knowledge that at any given time, the bird was going to try and kill the crew. SEAL team ops carry an even greater chance of being killed and the teams thrive on that. They wear the derringer and trident as a badge of honor and take it with them to their graves.
As we were told when we raised our hands - “you’re making an oath that you are willing to die for your country - do you understand?”
