Get ready folks, we are going to hear more parseltongue and fake news catch phrases in the next several weeks and months surrounding the federal budget, it already began today.

As we have discussed numerous times, President Trump is going to propose a $10 trillion spending cut over ten years – or $1 trillion per year. This is entirely reasonable considering the scale and scope of government.

Then we do need to cut entitlements. I just don't want to start with that fight.

Apparently neither does Trump. He has ruled out any entitlement cuts.

Good call . . . for now. Cut entitlements in President Trump's second term, and do it very thoughtfully. We need to raise the Social Security retirement age even further. It's ramping up to 67 instead of 67, and that needs to rise to at least 70. We need to make social security disability much harder to get and re-screen annually for most people on SSI. My relatives who are blind, missing one or more limbs, and otherwise facing real physical problems all work; they should not be supporting deadbeats who choose not to work.

When we cut entitlements, it needs to be done thoughtfully. The democrats will freak out and use it as an excuse to shriek that republicans want to starve Granny. We need clear ground rules: those already on social security retirement will not be affected. Those close to retirement (within ten years?) will similarly be exempt. The rest of us will be relieved that it's going to be fixed and last until we are eligible. Good ground rules will keep older voters from panicking and actually believing democrats told the truth for the first time in decades.
