There’s a story from a Gulf War I documentary about a Abrams gunner that was in a hurry to take out a guy aiming an RPG at them, that he forgot to switch to the coax MG and hit the Iraqi in the chest with a 120mm round. Don’t remember if it was KE or HE.
As if it matters ...
I got to my unit around 6 months after the Gulf War, and most of the guys from that war were still around. They were in a sort of running battle, as they headed from west to east, after the Battle of 73 Easting. All night long they drove through defensive positions and assembly areas, engaging the enemy....called it ‘Fright Night’.
The part that didn’t really make the news - my gunner described clear evidence in their tracks that they had unknowingly driven over Iraqi soldiers.
BTW, when I was in Korea, we had the 105mm...and there is a type of round for that which is essentially a pile of nails. I couldn’t imagine the damage that would do.
Whatever works. If somebody was aiming an RPG at me, I wouldn't have bothered to take the extra half second to switch either.
I remember that story
