Arab press: Turkey's intention is to be permanent in El Bab
EHA News ^ | February 26, 2017 | Malik Dragon

The armed groups of TSK and ÖSO were in the world media as well as in the Arab press, as last week's control in El Bab was in the world media. Rai Al Youm newspaper said, "Erdogan does not intend to withdraw from El Bab if it is not forced and to leave the city to Syrian domination."

Turkey's entry into the center of El Bab city under the Euphrates' Operation and control of the city was one of the most important agenda items of the Arab press this week. Four of the negotiations in Geneva to find a political solution to the Syrian crisis were one of the focus points of the Arab press this week. Lebanon's controversial Lebanese visit to Le Pen, the Iraqi army's western Mosul campaign and the far-right leader of France, became another important topic of the day.

The London-based newspaper Rai Al Youm has made remarkable statements in his editorial about the forces of the Euphrates of Kalkan entering El Bab. In the article, it is alleged that Turkey went to El Bab permanently, and this situation was likened to İskenderun (meaning Hatay konusudur) which is in the past:

"As a result of the operations that have continued for several weeks, the forces of the Euphrates' Shield of Operation succeeded in entering the city center of El Bab and controlling it. This will undoubtedly contribute to the complete formation of the 5-square-kilometer safe zone that Erdogan has already mentioned.

It may be a remote possibility for El Bab to return to the hegemony of Syria through political solutions. Because in the past, experiences such as the Turkish military presence in the Basak camp near İskenderun and Mosul city showed that the Turkish forces entered to make permanent there and to make a fait accompli under different names. Receiving a strong support from the new US president for the safe zone project, Erdogan does not intend to withdraw from El Bab if it is not forced and to leave the city to Syria's sovereignty.

Turkey - Syria conflict is approaching fast. We think that the foreign minister of Iran has not joked with the statement of 'there is a limit of patience' against the attitudes of Turkey. Again, the Syrian government will not give the impression that the experience of Iskenderun in the north has been repeated. " Nerina Azad

My my my.

No real surprise, but to see it in the Turkish press is amazing.

Erdogan intends to keep Al-Bab and territory he captured (actually made a deal with ISIS to leave) in name of eliminating ISIS.

If you see something in the article that I missed and got the wrong impression from, please tell me.

This was of course a machine translation, pretty rough stuff.

Iskenderun

I was wondering about that little tongue of land that I noticed back when Turkey shot down the Russian jet near there

Turkey is NOT a friend of America. Should Turkey suffer consequences as a result of their invasion of a neighboring country, neither the US or any other member of NATO should come to the aid of Islamist Turkey.

I’ve long felt that annexing Iraqi Kurdistan for its vast oil reserves is the real goal of Erdogan.

Wikipedia says "Sovereignty over the province remains disputed with neighbouring Syria, which claims that the province was separated from itself against the stipulations of the French Mandate of Syria in the years following Syria's independence from the Ottoman Empire after World War I. Although the two countries have remained generally peaceful in their dispute over the territory, Syria has never formally renounced its claims to it."

The article may be referring to more recent takings by Turkey near that province, but possibly also old historical takings which they never forget.

This is the Middle East. Nothing is as it appears to be.

And right now Erdogan’s Turkish military is shelling 2 villages near Efrin, where 100’s of thousands of internally displaced persons are sheltered. I’ve read that the SDF is actively engaging them fiercely.

Thanks for the explanation.

Yes, holding a grudge since WWI is nothing. 500 year grudge is more like it. 2000 year grudge, now you’re talking.
