BELLEVILLE, Ill. (KMOV.com) - A Southern Illinois state representative is pushing a plan to end the state's program to register and identify gun owners.
Representative Jerry Costello said the Firearm Owners ID program is losing money and creating more bureaucracy for lawful gun owners.
"It's very important to my constituents in downstate Illinois," Costello said.
Currently the FOID cards are needed to purchase and possess guns and buy ammunition. Applicants must submit to a background check.

I hope this happens, then I might not leave Illinois after all. Actually, I probably will no matter what.
I personally think we should cut Cook County out from the rest of the state, kick it out into the middle of lake michigan, and shoot anyone who tries swimming back to shore.
But that's just me I suppose.
The two worst drives I ever made were going through Nebraska on I-80 and through Kansas on I-70. Deadly dull.
On the map it looks like Illinois is as long north-south as Florida.
I never drove Illinois, but I used like seeing the palm trees in Florida (Dixie Highway days).
“But that’s just me I suppose.”
No, it’s not just you, believe me.
Long enough for me to celebrate with my buddies (loudly) at many drinking establishments in the fine city of Chicago, and then move to the Detroit area (also fine), where the celebration continues to this day. :)
We are out of here ASAP. We don’t want to be around when the EBT cards stop working.

I’m moving across the border to Dyer, Indiana soon. Been looking at houses there the last few weeks. I’m NOT going to be in this craphole of a state when they double the income tax again.
There used to be a song about the sights traveling the Mississippi from Wisconsin to Southern IL... it went something like this:
Corn, corn, corn corn corn
Corn, hogs, corn CORN corn
Corn, corn, Qaud Cities corn,
Corn corn corn, corn more corn
Corn, corn, corn corn corn
Corn, corn, corn CORN corn
Corn and soy, boy oh boy
Corn corn corn, corn and soy
Corn, corn, corn corn corn
Corn, corn, corn CORN corn
Soy and corn, field of milo
Corn corn corn, big grain silo
Corn, corn, corn corn corn
Corn, corn, corn CORN corn
Corn and soy, boy oh boy
Corn corn corn, corn and soy
Soy, soy, soy soy corn
Corn, corn, corn CORN corn
Soy and corn, milo red
Corn corn corn, to the riverbed ...
You forgot the wheat.
Sounds like you’d fit in nicely down here in South Carolina.
Just a small corner of the northern part, if you please. Most of Illinois, north and south, are as red as Indiana.
Good luck to you. We wish you the best.

It’s a shame that the liberals ruin it for everybody else.
Between Property Taxes and Income taxes, I'll be saving between $10k - $12k a year. How can I NOT move to Indiana?
My commute into Chicago will also be a full 20 minutes SHORTER each way! So I get to take my big Chicago salary with me to Indiana, save money, and flip Illinois the bird all at the same time. That's awesome!
Sounds like a win win to me!!
There’s a reason they call it the Prairie State.
That being said there are some very scenic parts including NW Illinois around Galena (Dubuque IA area). And the far southern part is similar to Ozarks
You can own a gun in Chicago, but gun sales are banned in Chicago. And, unless they’ve changed it recently, you have to jump through a hoops to own a gun in Chicago.
1. Send for a Firearm Owners Identification Card.
You cant get into a bar without ID and you cant get a gun without an Illinois State Policeissued FOID. Fill out the application and tape on a head shot that doesnt make you look like a maniac.
Cost $10
Wait time Up to 30 days
2. Complete a firearms safety course.
State-certified instructors (most gun ranges offer the class) teach the basics, from the safest direction to point a gun (yes, there is one) to proper aim.
Cost $125$135 (includes course, gun rental and ammunition)
Wait time Four hours of class; one hour at a range
3. Apply for a Chicago Firearms Permit.
Along with the signed affidavit from the firearms instructor, submit the yellow CFP application (available at chicagopolice.org) at the police records division, 4770 South Kedzie Avenue. Afterward, grab some Crazy Bread from the Little Caesars in the same strip mall.
Cost $100
Wait time Up to 30 days
4. Purchase a gun.
Once the CFP arrives, its time to go shop-ping! Gun sales are banned in the city, so a trip to the burbs is necessary.
Cost $300$400 for used guns; $5 background check
Wait time 72 hours
5. Register the firearm.
Very important: A new gun must be registered within five business days of purchase. Miss that deadline and your brand-new firearm is deemed unregisterable. Fill out the form (available at chicagopolice.org) with details like serial number, barrel length and when you carried it into the city, and file it at the 4770 South Kedzie Avenue building (but leave the gun at home, Yosemite Sam). You cant travel with the gun until you receive the registration, but you can keep it in your home.
Cost $15
Wait time Up to 30 days for the registration to turn up in your mailbox.
