It’s a question that has been asked for a long time. It has become more acute since Erdogan came to power.
He believes he has been chosen by ‘his god’ to be king over a great empire. Restore the Ottoman empire. He is terminally arrogant. That is very dangerous as a consequence.

The USA and Russia should join forces and put the economic squeeze on Turkey. Russia is one of their most important trading partners. It would devastate their economy and weaken Erdogan. Hopefully to the point to where the more secular military regains control. Even if Erdogan was gone, I wouldn’t trust Turkey because they’re still a mostly Muslim country.
