Kim Jong-nam 'killed by VX nerve agent found on his face'
Kim Jong-nam, the half-brother of North Korea's leader, was killed by a highly toxic nerve agent, says Malaysia.
Mr Kim died last week after two women wiped a substance over his face in a check-in hall at Kuala Lumpur airport.
Malaysian toxicology reports have identified the chemical as "VX nerve agent", classified as a weapon of mass destruction by the United Nations.

Jong-nam lived in Macao, and was just passing through the airport, if I'm not mistaken. Sure looks like a lot of planning in Malaysia for an event that had such a small and random chance of happening.
Wow, so it was something less lethal than I initially thought. I first thought they put headphones over his ears and played a tape of Hillary shrieking....

How fast would that kill?
Supposedly it was applied to him by a rag and not sprayed in the air. He'd be the only one affected, though some reports say one of the suspects arrested in the murder is suffering from some effects of VX.
It is possible that each woman has different chemical in her hands. The first one applies chemical to Kim's face, followed by the second one with a different chemical. Once two chemicals are applied on his face, they turn into VX. The second one could be affected since two chemicals started to react as soon as she applied her chemical. She might have gotten some trace of VX before she released her hand from his face.
I am not sure if this is indeed the way it happened. But if it did, we have the first known case of "binary assassins."
DMSO (CH3)2SO as a trans-dermal transfer agent?
My understanding is that VX is a clear oily substance at room temperature (it is also odorless). It’s deadly because it does not evaporate that easily and can be absorbed through the skin. This means that once could -theoretically spray (or simply drop) a very small quantity onto the skin of someone. It would be enough to kill them several times over.
My bad....apparently it has an amber-like coloration to it. Still, in a small dose....like from a medicine dropper it probably looks like slightly murky water. It was probably not aerosolized so as to not kill other people.

It wasn’t in the form of gas.
Reminds me of Yazid Sufaat and friends.

This is why I don’t share in the jokes that are made about this dictator. He’s NOT a schoolboy with delusions of grandeur, he is a quiet, clever sadist who is crafty in getting rid of his enemies or anyone who poses a challenge.
[Abdur] Rauf's money demands may have led to a falling-out with Zawahiri, who appears to have decided to explore other options for obtaining bacteria and lab equipment, said Rohan Gunaratna, an al-Qaeda expert with the Institute of Defense and Strategic Studies in Singapore. Gunaratna said al-Qaeda leaders also collaborated with Yazid Sufaat, a member of an allied Southeast Asian group called Jemaah Islamiyah, in purchasing equipment for the Kandahar lab. Sufaat, who once studied chemistry at California State University at Sacramento, has been in custody since late 2001. "Rauf was financially driven, and al-Qaeda didn't entirely trust him," Gunaratna said. ------- "Suspect and A Setback In Al-Qaeda Anthrax Case - Scientist With Ties To Group Goes Free," by Joby Warrick, Washington Post, October 31, 2006
He has since been released, so he is running free over there...

Maybe he’s freelancing...
Or could be the Axis of Evil pooling resources, as North Korea and Iran have a long-standing missile development relationship. Thanks for the ping!
Most of all, this is not good news to South Korea, with a 20 million population capital just 90 miles from the N.K border. Though, maybe they were already aware N.K. had stocks of VX.
