I generally agree with your post.

Mark Steyn is another example: As someone pointed out elsewhere, Steyn, an atheist, got maudlin over the death of George Michael in an irrational way that he probably would not have done if her were a Christian. I certainly have a high regard for Steyn’s intellect, but I surprised and disappointed by his commentary on that.

Question being asked here (by me, unsuccessfully): if Steyn, by chance or otherwise, makes an intelligent observation about something . . . will you discount it because of his response to the death of George Michael?
