A conference on race took place at The Crossing Church in Tampa Bay, Florida, last week. The forum, titled Under Our Skin, attracted sports figures such as Super Bowl champion Tony Dungy, former player Ben Watson, and current ESPN anchor Sage Steele. The forums purpose was to discuss the intersection of race and faith in America today.
That topic certainly received plenty of coverage at the conference. More notable, however, is how no one in the sports media covered what was actually said there.

Particularly as it relates to romance and "who is going out with whom."
I think that’s very real. There’s also a strong sentiment that conservative blacks aren’t “real black people.” Benjamin Watson and Sage Steele face that criticism a lot.
Garrett Morris: [ interrupting ] Well, I think I understand the problem with the tests. But the fact is that people have been saying that white people are smarter than black for hundreds of years. We've only had I.Q. tests for 20 or 30 years. How did the idea of white intellectual superiority originate?
Julian Bond: That's an interesting point. My theory is that it's based on the fact that light-skinned blacks are smarter than dark-skinned blacks.
Garrett Morris: [ not sure he heard that right ] Say what?
Julian Bond: I said I think it might have grown out of the observation that light-skinned blacks are smarter than dark-skinned blacks.
Garrett Morris: I don't get it.
Julian Bond: It's got nothing to do with having white blood. It's just that descendants of the lighter-skinned African tribes are more intelligent than the descendants of the darker-skinned tribes. Everybody knows that.
Garrett Morris: This is the first time I've heard of it.
Julian Bond: Seriously? It was proven a long time ago.
Garrett Morris: Well, I still don't quite understand. We're out of time right now, but perhaps you could come back on the show again and explain it further.
Julian Bond: There's very little to explain - it's just like I told you.
Garrett Morris: Well, we are out of time. Good night. [ to Julian ] If you could repeat it just once more...
As I see it, Asians are the most rabid racists in the world - Koreans, Chinese and Japanese.
It time that blacks try to understand why they are discriminated against when other minority races are not. There's a reason. Orin Hatch once said that if you remove the murders done by blacks between the ages of 17 and 35, the murder rate in the US would be lower than Switzerland. Jesse and Al make a living convincing blacks that they are victims and liberals are going to save them. Bullcrap! It's time for blacks to clean up their own house and a good place to start is the reinstatement of the black family and an understanding that you are responsible for yourself, no one else.
I get a chuckle out of people who criticize Benjamin Watson, who recently spoke at the March for Life rally, because of his supposed lower intellect as a football player. He scored a 48 on the Wonderlic test, which equates to an IQ in the 150s. He’s LITERALLY a genius. A black man, married with five kids, conservative, genius. That really makes liberal minds explode.
And Tony Dungy talked a lot about the black family during the forum. I’m glad the forum is receiving some attention because it’s the Benjamin Watsons and Tony Dungys that we should be hearing from, not the Sharptons and Jacksons.
Yes, and no. They have ethnically homogenous societies, so anyone outside the country/race is immediately different. They've existed for thousands of years as a unified culture and will continue to exist long after the USA is gone - and they don't apologize for it. An average korean or Japanese would simply ask - "I would not claim to be a citizen of the Congo or Iraq, so why would someone from those places think they would fit in our society?"
That’s right, unless you define “race” in terms of nationality/ethnicity, it’s not correct that they are racist. They are extremely oriented towards and loyal to their nationality, but a Chinese person doesn’t particularly distinguish by “race” between non-Chinese people. That is to say, they would treat a Korean person the same as they might treat a white or black American or someone from Mexico. For them, it’s just Chinese and not Chinese, for the most part.
I guess Mr. Steele never got the message that blacks can't be racist, because racism = prejudice + power (and blacks don't have any "power" so they cannot be racist). How convenient.
From a Canadians perspective:
1) My wife was born and lived in the US, and she says that the most racism she witnessed was against her by black people.
2) There was a case in Vancouver where a woman had a baby from a NBS basketball star. His lawyers basically tried to claim that being half black makes him black, and that the baby should have to grow up “among his own people”.
Yes, that is basically what my sister’s liberal boyfriend tried to tell me. “White on black racism is worse” he said “because Whites have all the power”.
There is racism between African Americans who are born here and those who just became citizens. I guess it’s just another form of bullying. Until you realize you deserve hell along with the rest of the human race (with One Exception) you have to have pride in something.
