What drew my attention to the story was the online headline (different from the story headline)...

"ShopRite could ditch hundreds of jobs because of soda tax"

So, as usual, the unintended consequences of liberal/democrat decisions result in real-world disaster for employer, employees and consumers. Yet, Democrats continue to ruin the city.

In Philly they didn’t even go through the charade that this was all to encourage people to stop drinking sugary drinks. They went straight down the “city will make a fortune” route. They, being leftist idiots who have the long term forecasting abilities of a two year old, are incapable of predicting the easily foreseen consequences on consumers, stores, and suppliers.

Is there any measure large enough to gauge just how stupid these politicians are?

I doubt it.

The problem is not only are they stupid they are arrogant and have twisted minds.

If Democrats see something thriving, they tax it.
If it continues to thrive, they regulate it.
Once it stops thriving, they subsidize it.

In the case of the food production...

They tax the soda. They regulate the wages and benefits of the workers. They subsidize the corn that is used to sweeten the soda.

And yet they can’t understand why the system isn’t working right.

Just wait until the sodas and junk food is removed from SNAP. Headlines will be disaster for junk food industry. NOT! As kids we collected pop bottles for our candy money a nickle a bottle. Served 3 purposes, got them off the street and provided poor kids with a candy bar for which the store made a profit.

I don’t drink sodas, they damage your GI tract and cause diabetes with all that sugar and other chemicals.

I don’t drink sugar drinks either. My tea and coffee is straight black and strong.

If I want cookies I bake them from scratch. Less chems in them. Get about 3 dozen vs 12 cookies. And dough can be froze for later use if you don’t want that many.

Buggy whips went out of production when cars were invented.

Liberals have no understanding of basic economics. The Law of Demand is pretty clear....if you raise the price of a good, the market will buy less of it.
