If the fedgov wants businesses to do that for them, they have to pay for that service. Simple as that.

Have you ever employed anyone before? Do you know how much time, money and effort is required to collect state and fedgov taxes?
And it’s all done for free. Fedgov pays nothing for the service.

Right. And I gave those forms to my prospective employees, mostly immigrants, they filled them out, had SS numbers and I hired them. Fully compliant with all laws. I was anyways.

It’s up to the fedgov that those people aren’t here. Just because they’ve completely failed in that doesn’t give them the right to pass the buck to businesses.

Okay. That’s a different issue than forcing more regulations (unfunded mandate) on small businesses.

Modify that “Let the name 0bama be stricken ...” just a little somehow such that we have a clearly seen morsel of his shameful legacy that demonstrates for all time how terrible it is to put in office someone who hates the United States and its history.
You realize how "it" is done? Firms go to bid on available work, and just one who knows he can get labor for what amounts to slave wages, including paying "under the table", thereby avoiding payroll taxes, withholding, and all the other artificial rent streams that feed the feudal lords of FedGov, that firm can always bid lower than all the rest that run 100% above board. The honest ones must either go along to stay alive, close up, or eke out in subsistence mode with nearly indigestible costs.
The problem is not just enforcement. The problem is that government IS the problem, in several different ways at once. It does what it should not be doing (since nobody is allowed to question whether it should be harvesting the substance of "free" citizens as if they were penned cattle), and it does not do what it should (deal with foreign governments, secure borders, etc.)
Government "of the people, by the people, for the people" has not properly existed in this country for longer than I've been in it.
Payroll services are actually pretty cheap. So is having a tax accountant. It's part of the cost of doing business.
OTOH, e-Verify doesn't cost anything. I'm going to guess it's not an expense or time issue, it's that you can hire illegal aliens much cheaper under the table than Americans. The GOV services they and their families consume can get passed on to other people, rather than they (and you) paying their fair share.

You guess completely wrong. In my old business, I used to employ 20-30 people.
Having to deal with all of your “cost of doing business” mandates from fed and state gov’s have led me to the business I’m in now:
0 employess. And it’s going to stay that way until the swamp is completely drained. And the state (MA) swamp too.
