After meeting with US Vice-President Mike Pence on Sunday (19 February), the Belgian prime minister said in a veiled criticism of President Donald Trump’s comments that Belgium, like other countries, would not allow the fragmentation of the European Union.

US Vice-President Mike Pence arrived in Brussels on Sunday evening, the second stop of his European tour to reassure worried European leaders.

Pence will meet European Council President Donald Tusk on Monday morning. The VP flew from Munich, Germany, where he attended the Munich Security Conference. […]

“There is no question of allowing the fragmentation of the European Union. This message has been given. I have the feeling that it has been heard,” said Michel.

Against the backdrop of Europe’s disunity over current challenges (migration, economic policy…) and the future of the union, Trump is trying to exploit its differences, in order to weaken the bloc’s influence in world affairs, to “make America great again” as he promised in his campaign. …

Sound like someone does not want to pay their full NATO dues.

By having to have a defense budget AND pay into NATO, costs will go up. Your salaries for lording over the other countries will need to end. And the EU will soon be no more.

There’s a reason why my ancestors left the continent to come here. Totalitarian boneheads like the EU are one of the more obvious ones.

Europeans will never understand the American people. Most Americans could not care less what they do. However most Americans do not want to sacrifice blood and treasure when they screw themselves up again. Nor do Americans wish to keep spending huge amounts of money in a largely outdated military alliance. American mothers have no interest in seeing their sons killed fighting to define the borders within the old Soviet Union. Times, cultures and political realities change.

Dear Belgium,

Shut the hell up and make more beer, waffles, and chocolate.

Love,

Laz

Did he feel the same way when Obama campaigned against Brexit? Or is that the good type of interference?

German beer is better.

But the Germans might be shocked by some of the best craft beers being brewed in Colorado and elsewhere in the good ol' USA. Hear the footsteps, Germany?

That’s rich, considering how damn near all of them have been flapping their gums about our politics for months.

Well now, the result of last week’s competition when we asked you to find a derogatory term for the Belgians.

Well, the response was enormous and we took quite a long time sorting out the winners. There were some very clever entries.

Mrs Hatred of Leicester Said ‘let’s not call them anything, let’s just ignore them’ ... and a Mr St John of Huntingdon said he couldn’t think of anything more derogatory than Belgians.

But in the end we settled on three choices: number three ... the Sprouts, sent in by Mrs Vicious of Hastings... very nice ; number two..... the Phlegms ... from Mrs Childmolester of Worthing;

But the winner was undoubtedly from Mrs No-Supper-For-You from Norwood in Lancashire... Miserable Fat Belgian Bastards.

The EU as it is presently constituted is untenable in the long run. So, what are the Belgians, Germans, etc., going to do, when more countries decide to exit? Go to war against them?

The last two wars, the Axis powers insisted on dragging us in. No reason to presume they won’t make the same insistence if they suddenly regard themselves as an “empire” again, like Barroso claimed they were a decade ago (doesn’t seem that long ago).

History Lesson No. 2000. If it weren’t for America’s “meddling” in European affairs in the 1940’s, there wouldn’t be any Belgium.

Remember, the Malmedy Massacre was on Belgian soil as was a good part of the Battle of the Bulge.

“Belgian PM warns US against meddling in EU politics”

We in the U.S. absolutely agree! And the first thing we in the U.S. want to see is for us to get the hell out of NATO and bring all of our troops and military equipment home, which is the ultimate in “meddling” in EU politics!
