Sen. John McCain slammed President Donald Trump's attacks on the media this week by noting dictators "get started by suppressing free press."
It was a startling observation from a sitting member of Congress against the President of the United States, especially considering McCain is a member of Trump's party.
"I hate the press," the Arizona Republican sarcastically told NBC News' Chuck Todd on "Meet the Press." "I hate you especially. But the fact is we need you. We need a free press. We must have it. It's vital."

How “free” is the press when it is dominated by six (soon to be five) large Corporations?
That’s the bottom line. It’s not against free speech to call out the media on not doing their job as well as pointing out they are pushing an agenda.
Not old enough. I won’t say it, but you can guess what my thoughts are about this disgusting b******
Freedom to report the truth is one thing. Creating lies out of whole cloth is fiction.
McCain got his picture and hagiographic coverage in a liberal magazine. Mission accomplished. He’s admired - but only temporarily - by the left not for being a war hero but for throwing an election to obama. And his heroism ended when his chute landed in NVN. After that, it appears that he had to be babysat by cellmates who were genuine heroes before and during captivity. If the truth be known, his own admitted cooperation with NVN would be the real reason the left considers him a hero, despite the fact they secretly considered him a baby killer before being shot down.
McCain is a Democrat in an R jersey.
His McCain/Feingold bill did more to suppress free speech than anything Trump has done.
The bottom line:
The Uniparty wants to take Trump down to keep the borders open and the laws unenforced.
During the 2000 Republican primaries, McCain became the darling of the media and of Democrats for being even more liberal than Bush on immigration and for walking hand in hand with Russ Feingold on campaign finance reform. His popularity got to his head and he's managed to stay in the spotlight by attacking conservative and nationalist Republicans ever since. McCain's hubris and stupidity got the better of him in 2008, when he couldn't or wouldn't recognize why the media no longer loved him once he stood in the way of one of their own.
I posted pretty much the following in another McCain thread yesterday. He’s a bitter old man who’ll spend the next 4 years criticizing every thing Trump does that doesn’t fit McCain’s globalist agenda.
This clown never saw a country he didnt want to invade.
I couldnt care less how much time he spent in a North Vietnamese prison camp. Sending Americas sons and daughters to spill their blood so that others will fill up your pockets with cash in order for you to continue in a position where you can peddle influence is inexcuseable. This Quisling is Hillary Clinton with a better wardrobe.
Id love to see AG Sessions send his former colleague a letter with copy of the Logan Act, notifying him that his passport has been revoked and that the FBI will be meeting him on the tarmac.
With Soros and the House of Saud as his puppet masters - the most accurate name I can give him is simply - Domestic Enemy.
“McCain is looking old.”......you meant McCain is GETTING old,.....especially his opposition of the President, VERY OLD
Does anyone doubt that Trump could get a “recall McCain” movement going full-steam with just a few well-timed rallies in Arizona? It’s well past time for this traitorous attention-whore to get what’s coming to him.
McCain and the POW Cover-Up
The war hero candidate buried information about POWs left behind in Vietnam.
By Sydney Schanberg July 1, 2010
Eighteen months ago, TAC publisher Ron Unz discovered an astonishing account of the role the 2008 Republican presidential nominee, John McCain, had played in suppressing information about what happened to American soldiers missing in action in Vietnam. Below, we present in full Sydney Schanbergs explosive story.
So John McCain lets talk about ‘suppressing free press’ and ‘dictators’ shall we???
Talk of a “Free Press” assumes that such an institution actually exists. Reality dictates that the media is under almost total control of left wing persons, firms and entities. The idea that the press is the propaganda arm of the Democratic party and the radical left has great merit.
That's a big part of the story, but the main reason McCain is so well-loved by liberals is that he has consistently put more effort into undermining conservatives and conservatism than any other prominent Republican during the past 20 years. McCain could barely bring himself to criticize Obama in 2008 (much less during his Presidency), but he's all fight, spit and bile when there's a conservative or nationalist like Trump to attack. Mitt Romney is cut from the same cloth, but never quite got the same love from the media.
I wonder if that includes lying ads about Kelli Ward that were wall-to-wall propaganda during the campaign?
Senile dementia in full bloom. Time for Cindy to put him in a home.
Free presh, Shenator, is what we have online. Traditional news media suppress anything but leftist ideology.
Actually, Trump very much supports the free press. It’s the MSM that he opposes.
This is, quite literally, a clash of the titans, and McCain is doing the other side’s bidding.
How do traitors get started?
