OTOH, it at least showed me the Japanese were keeping track out of who is entering and leaving their country. Part of me was also pleased that they knew I was a good and responsible FORMER resident.

It makes me feel that if I qualified for a visa in later years, they would most likely expedite the process based on my known past record.
