AFGE President cites need for more resources to carry out agencys important work
WASHINGTON J. David Cox Sr., national president of the American Federation of Government Employees, which represents more than 9,000 employees at the Environmental Protection Agency, today issued the following statement in response to the Senates 52-46 vote to confirm Scott Pruitt as EPA Administrator:
As head of the EPA, Scott Pruitt will be responsible for leading the agencys efforts to ensure the safety of our air and water, repair our aging infrastructure of water lines and treatment plants, clean up hazardous waste sites, and enforce environmental laws and regulations that help protect our precious natural resources.
EPAs workforce is smaller today than it was in 1999, despite a significant growth in responsibilities. Starving this vital agency of the resources it needs to carry out its important work threatens the health and safety of all Americans.
The biologists, scientists, lab technicians, engineers, and other civil servants who work at the EPA must be able to do their jobs without political interference or fear of retribution. Ensuring the independence of our career civil servants at EPA and all federal agencies is an essential part of our democratic government and something that we will fight to maintain.
This:
“American Federation of Government Employees “
Needs to be disbanded.
Get then all out to No. Dak. immediately to clean up the mess caused by their opposition to pipelines.
ELIMINATE EPA and Both DOE’s for starters.
The EPA GOVERNMENT employees have their own union? That right there is enough to shut that sewer down.
thats just union jobs
Shut it down!
And ban all government workers unions!
Methinks they lost a zero in their counting.
I think that's the big takeaway from this article.
For every private sector job destroyed by EPA regulations, an EPA employee must be terminated. Then make it retroactive eight years and presto, no more EPA employees.
How about 240,000+ at DHS. And that's not a typo.
Defund the entire EPA. Toss these workers into the street.
L
EPA has 9K employees?! And they’re unionized?! That’s outrageous!
“The American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) is the largest federal employee union, representing 700,000 workers in the federal government and the government of the District of Columbia.”
700,000 - let’s see how long that lasts!!!
“WTH!,9,000 employees at the Environmental Protection Agency?”
I agree, kind of low, but it may just be the EPA workers in the DC Metro area - there are lots of them also scattered around the country. Total is 15,000, I believe.
Wasn’t aware it is EPAs job to repair treatment plants and aging water infrastructure.
Since when?
