Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) blasted a report that the Trump administration is considering using the National Guard to round up undocumented immigrants for deportation, a claim that the White House has denied.
"That's despicable," Schumer told reporters during a press conference on Scott Pruitt's nomination to lead the Environmental Protection Agency. "That would be one of the most un-American things that would happen in the last century."
He added: "I just hope it's not true."
The Trump administration issued a strongly worded denial on Friday morning after The Associated Press reported that the administration was planning to mobilize National Guard troops.
"There is no effort at all to round up, to utilize the National Guard to round up illegal immigrants," White House press secretary Sean Spicer said of the report, according to pool reports.
The AP, citing a draft memo, said that the administration could use up to 100,000 troops.
The AP report comes as a string of high-profile immigration raids have sparked backlash from outside groups and Democrats.
It appears that fake headline was just intended to give Schumer, et al something new to scream about. It was debunked quicker than they expected (Betcha it was supposed to be the leftards’ talking point for the long weekend).
Stop laughing at Chuck ,remember his a lightweight and will have a habit of blowing in the wind
How is it despicable to enforce the law?
Illegal aliens, ALL OF THEM, including those whose deportation was illegally deferred by Obama, ARE subject to deportation.
The federal government has spent more time and money avoiding upholding the law than have enforcing it.
The citizens get no pass from the laws, fraudulently documented foreigners should not either.
I just hope it’s not true that Chuck Schumer regularly has sex with Border Collies.
Has he denied it yet?
You would know all about despicable.
The next Fake Memo should be about enlisting the Russians to help roundup Illegal Aliens, because it is against the law to use our own Military.
Where did it come from? Probably one of the pro-Obama moles in Homeland Security, Immigration, or another agency that heard about it.
Chuckle and McCain punked in the same day.
It’s been a good day.
Democrats say that enforcing the law would be “despicable”. That’s why we don’t care if President Trump misstates the size of his electoral vote victory. Trump gets trivial details wrong, but he is delivering on his campaign promises.
Even without using the National Guard, I expect President Trump to deport millions of illegals (literally millions, not just “a lot”).
I expect President Trump to repeal Obamacare (literally repeal and not just modify a few details).
I expect President Trump to drain the swamp and shrink the size of FedGov (literally shrink and not just slow the planned rate of growth).
Compared to the lawless Ctrl-Left, the worst accusations against the President are trivial.
Fake news. Fake hair. Fool Schumer.
I just saw a fake tweet that HHS is planning on committing Chuckie the Lightweight to an insane asylum. If true, that would be chilling (and awesome!)
What a moron.
Dam! I was cheering when I heard this on the radio. And now, so disappointed it was just more fake news.
That wouldn’t be a bad idea but if it happened LiberaNazis would lose their s**t, no doubt they’d go into Kristallnacht mode again and smash up windows and burn cars.
Schemer wasn't trolled. He knew it was fake. He's playing his expected role in order to attempt to start another false narrative about Trump.
(Or would be if they were true.)
Using national guardsmen to round up people who are committing crimes? Who’d-a-thunk!!
I agree, this kind of false reporting is despicable.
