Your epitaph?

The US Constitution is broken. We need to repeal the 16th and 17th amendments. Art V is a good way to do it.

It would certainly be a good start.

The Constitution is broken so much as ignored when convenient by both parties. They get away with it because the have an ignorant electorate.

Terrific news. Thank you for your efforts. With Texas aboard, (fingers crossed) we just might get a convention of the states.

I know that there is a “trial run” for an Article V convention happening, or has happened, as late as September of 2016, but there has just been a tiny amount of news about it.

You are correct. Term limits is something Sen. Birdwell, a co-author of the bill, stresses. Most of us giving testimony before the committee yesterday, including me, included term limits in our reasons for passage of the bill. I think because most of our state representatives have real jobs of their own and truly have to take time out to SERVE, most share our disgust with the federal jerks on the lifetime gravy train.

Keep us in prayer here in Texas please. A large, well-coordinated number of us are making the trip to Austin on a regular basis trying to be heard and get this thru. I’ve been disheartened at the defeats in other states. President Trump needs this grassroots support to help drain the swamp.

I truly appreciate your well-worded responses on the CoS issue. Since you, jacquerie, publius, art in idaho and the CoS threads in general explained these in plain English last fall, I am putting feet to this with the best of my ability here in Texas. Thanks because you contributed to our success yesterday.

That trial run of a Convention of States did happen last fall. There is an online video where you can view the entire process. That practice run was discussed in our Senate Affairs Committee meeting yesterday and judging by the discussion within the committee I believe it helped change one mind and get us one vote. If you would like to see that video please let me know and I would do my best to direct you to it. I’m not real good at linking stuff here and do it all from my phone but I would figure out how to do it.

The Constitution is not just fine the way it is. The 16th, 17th and 18th amendments were added by the “Progressives” in 1913. The “Progressive” movement was the name the socialists gave themselves in America to dupe the sheep. By instituting the 17th Amendment they turned these United States from a Republic into a Democratic Republic. We need to repeal the 16th and 17th Amendment.

No one political solution will “fix” this nation. Educating children would be a great thing to do but its not going to happen in the socialist strongholds in the inner cities and on the coasts. What you suggest would help but it would be a cupful in the bucket.

Article V is part and parcel of the very Constitution you say we aren’t using and yet you are attacking the very freepers who are, in reality, putting feet to the Constitution.

Your comments reveal a lack of knowledge about this issue yourself. Perhaps it would be a good lesson to study for your own homeschool plans.

So happy to hear it was well-received.

That first example Amendment XXVIII ‘Term Limits’ has an interesting evolution.

First, it was Jacquerie that kept prodding me on to somehow get the 17th repeal in there but I hesitated because I thought it would be a tough sell to persuade voters to give up their right to vote for US Senator. The solution to that dilemma was put in the first provision to allow the voting public to vote them out if the legislature won’t.

“YOU CAN’T VOTE THEM IN, BUT YOU CAN VOTE THEM OUT!”

Recall of a US Senator was also ruled in a federal court to be unconstitutional in the case of US Senator Frank Church so it followed that ‘Recall’ needed to be in the amendment. Recall would be left to EITHER the state legislature or the voters. If state legislators would seem too squeamish to fire their US Senator, then the voters could organize to do the firing.

The second provision was written with input by some fine Freepers like Publius, Art, and others who contributed remarks that anything longer than 18 years was too long yet some thought 12 years should be the max. It seemed a good agreement to let individual states decide 12 or 18.

Finally, the third provision repeals the 17th which returns the power to the state legislatures to decide who their US Senators will be thereby giving back their voice and power that were taken away 104 years ago in an episode of poor judgment and sleight of hand. I agree with Jacquerie on that one. The persuasive argument to the voters is as described above, “need to return states the power to decide but give you the voters power to vote them out”. It will still be a tough sell but after it sinks in, people will see it makes sense hopefully.

Please keep Publius and Jacquerie posted on the progress in TX. They have the ping lists. Also, note President Trump wants term limits and should have a liaison for communicating to state groups on the Article V process. Note again, at some point we can expect congressional critters to ‘agree’ to take it up in Congress where they will ‘handle it’. Recommend that play is opposed with maximum effort because it means they will control the outcome and will likely write it in such a way that it fails at a time when they sense the ‘fever’ has passed or they will write it in such a way that it is ambiguous and leaves it for the judiciary to decide.

We have an overwhelming number of Republican governors and state houses WHY do we ONLY have 8 states signing up for the convention of states!!! I live in CA. there is NO CHANCE we would EVER get this done!!! WE have to depend on the rest of the country to save this nation!!!

Nobody is talking about a top down solution for government schooling. What I and others have been saying is that no Christian or conservative should be sending their children to public schools (and btw your little swipe at homeschooling is noted). We *cannot* restore the Republic without withdrawing from that system.

With respect to the Constitution, sure the things you mention have merits. As long as we have the Fed and an economy so dominated by banking & finance though, the 16th and 17th will not be repealed. Too many folks profit from banking and the military-industrial complex for govt. spending to be meaningfully reduced. I would far rather that the time&money spent on amending the Constitution be used to elect strictly pro-Constitution governors who have the courage to interpose against ATF, IRS and the like.

the constraints put on the delegates today as well as on the state legislators themselves to limit delegates and representatives to only a narrowly defined list of limiting federal bloating

So what if it passes in the Texas legislature. What would persuade other legislatures to sign up?
