The Index of Economic Freedom is my favorite annual publication from the Heritage Foundation. It’s a rich source of information, using dozens of data sources, about economic liberty around the world.

I first wrote about the Index back in 2010 and shared the bad news that the U.S. score dropped dramatically in Obama’s first year.

Well, the new Index lets us see the net effect of Obama’s entire tenure. The worse news is that the U.S. score has dropped to 75.1 on a 0-100 scale. And the worst news is that this represents America’s lowest score in the twenty-plus years that the Index has been published.

The United States is ranked #17 in the latest Index. We’re only in the “Mostly Free” category, behind Luxembourg and the Netherlands and tied with Denmark. …

I totally disagree with this ranking. Free speech is not allowed by law in the EU. And although it may be threatened here, we can still speak out. Also, try to start a company in Europe. Try to hire and fire someone. Try to home school your kids. I think this survey is really, which countries mimic the freedoms in Denmark. Not, who has the most freedoms.

Well, our free speech has suffered in a de facto sense, never mind our business freedom via Obama’s taxation and regulation policies. So it may even out, even in line with these rankings.

This ranking is supposed to rank economic freedom, not other freedoms.

South Africa is #81, in the “Moderately Free” category. They rank above Red China, which is at #111.

Thanks for that info. Limpopo is the fictional country that Maxine Waters wants to save from a fictional dictator. She was punked.

Funny, that. It’s also a real province of South Africa. FWICS, it’s reputed for its wildlife sancutaries. Formerly known as “Northern Province” and originally called “Northern Transvaal”.

Well that explains your prior response. I admit I wondered about the connection. Now it all makes sense.

Elbonia, by all means. And how could we forget the Duchy of Grand Fenwick?
