GROTON, CT (WFSB) -
A Russian spy ship was spotted off the Connecticut coast on Wednesday.
The ship was seen patrolling the waters 30 miles from the Groton SUBASE. Congressman Joe Courtney, who is a ranking member of the Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee, said the sighting "underscores that the threats posed by a resurgent Russia are real.

Nothing new about this...Has been happening for years and years...
I just made a big tray of lasagna, I should invite them to dinner.
If it breaks down, will we offer to fix it?
Back in the my Navy days, there was always one hanging off San Diego watching who came in and left. I always wanted to make a buck off it. Run harbor tours, “See the Genuine Soviet Spy Ship”. Alas, those thing are the ugliest rust-buckets you could imagine. Lousy paint job, no flag flying, rusty, unshaven crew in skivvies...Meh...
Russian jets just recently buzzed the USS Porter, too...

I hope the President doesn’t let them get away with this crap...
This is such a non-story. The Russians have always had ELINT ships shadowing our coasts and major naval exercises, and we have always done the same to them. All of a sudden the mundane is portrayed as unprecedented as the globalists drive the world toward war.
Nothing to be alarmed about.
Russia heard what Connecticut is now basically communist, and the Russkies just wanted to see it for themselves.
About 35 years ago while on a fishing trip out of San Diego we circled a Soviet “fishing trawler.” It had no nets or fishing gear, but it had lots of radio antennae on it. We were close enough to make out the hair color of the crewmen.
We used to wave at each other off the coast of GITMO...LOL
Dad’s Army will meet them on the beaches of Black Rock (Bridgeport)

Are CNN and MSNBC reporting this as Trump’s getaway vessel?
The following news story is not really fake news. It is propaganda. It is reported in order to foment more anti-Russian feeling in this country. It is part and parcel of the broader Democrat strategy to paint Trump and everyone in his Administration as a tool of Putin. Todays news has been dominated by the resignation of Michael Flynn and most of the coverage tries to portray this as something sinister linked to Russia. You can read the rest here: http://www.noquarterusa.net/blog/79591/going-crazy-russia/
Along with the Flynn story was this other news alert about Russia:
A Russian spy ship was spotted patrolling off the East Coast of the United States on Tuesday morning, the first such patrol since President Trump took office, two U.S. officials told Fox News.
The Russian spy ship was 70 miles off the coast of Delaware, heading north at 10 knots, according to one official. That location means the ship is in international waters. The U.S. territory line is 12 nautical miles.
Ominous, huh? How does that make you feel?
Okay, let me take you back almost a year ago:
Two separate close encounters between the Russian and U.S. militaries in recent days have left many wondering if future incidents could result in an armed clash. . . .
After two Russian fighter jets flew within 30 feet of the USS Donald Cook last Tuesday, Secretary of State John Kerry warned that the Russian action could have resulted in the jets being shot down. Kerry told CNN en Español that under the rules of engagement, that could have been a shoot-down, so people need to understand that this is serious business.
And where was the US ship located?
The Donald Cook happened to be around 70km away from a Russian naval base when the Su-24 planes passed by, according to the Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Major General Igor Konashenkov.
On April 13, the pilots of the Russian Air Force Su-24 planes took part in a training exercise over international waters in the Baltic Sea. Their route took them to an area where the USS Donald Cook was present, around 70km from a Russian naval base, he said, as cited by TASS.
70 Kilometers is roughly 44 miles. In other words, we were a lot closer to the Russian shore but still in international waters. Only, we were not spying. Nope. We were conducting a military exercise. How would we be reacting if Russia was conducting a military exercise with Cuba only 45 miles from our coast? Problem?
Near the end of his life, H.L. Menkin gave an interview where he recalled his days in the early 1900’s as a reporter for the Baltimore Sun. For no better reason than he was bored, he once took it upon himself to create a crisis in Baltimore by aggressively reporting and sensationalizing all of the petty crime that normally occurred in the city. Within a matter of weeks, Baltimore was in a state of hysteria, convinced that it was in the grip of an unprecedented crime wave. Such is the power of the press even today.
