Purge every voter roll across the country. Make people re-register to vote. It’s fair for everyone since everyone is impacted.
With the new voter-protection laws (and also as a matter of ethics, I think), there has to be a balance between fraud detection methods and discouraging the voter.
There are many elderly (possibly forgetful) people and disabled people who are fully entitled to vote. Plus the uneducated are probably more easily discouraged when a new obligation is introduced, or may not even hear about it.
There actually are some legitimate concerns with discouraging voting. I think NY handled it well. They came back with a new procedure that has seemed to satisfy everyone for now.
