We have an authentic Mexican Restaurant in my neighborhood. The owner made it perfectly clear that all the employees are Legal Immigrants. Unlike the Italian place that preceded it. The Mexican place welcomes the old neighborhood residents. The Italian place didn’t want us there. We are an Italian neighborhood! Go figure.
“Hostile policies”? Not “hostile”, but politely encouraging the various parties involved that illegal activity shall no longer be tolerated or dismissed. Self-deportation is an option.
“Hostile” is firebombing the neighborhood and firing upon the police.
I’m of Italian heritage and I’m too busy to notice if my fave Italian restos’ hire illegals. However, I want to know which restaurants are on the list so i can boycott.
IN REALITY, c’mon we just want to eat. My chief concern is if the food is great, the waiter is not an asshole, and if the food bill will not cost me an arm and a leg. You can also add if they didn’t spit in my food but that’s another story.
Probably like that early Angelina Jolie movie, a take-off on Romeo & Juliet, upscale Italians against the local neighborhood Italians competing in the restaurant and wedding catering businesses.
Then there's some of it in the Stanley Tucci/Tony Shaloub movie, "The Big Night", I think.
Shaloub's berating customers for ordering pasta with pasta, telling his brother, Tucci, "...they, Americans, will learn...", as the restaurant is goes down the tubes.
We have a Honduran place.
The owners are on work visas and go home more often than required to visit family and manage their businesses there.
Awesome food. Kinda sucks when you go eat there and the place is locked up though.
