The top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee wants the committee to look into potential disciplinary action against Kellyanne Conway for plugging Ivanka Trump‘s brand on Fox News this morning.
After President Trump raised ethical questions with his tweet about Nordstrom yesterday, Conway repeatedly encouraged Fox viewers this morning to go purchase goods from the company run by the president’s daughter.
Elijah Cummings, ranking member on the House Oversight Committee, sent a letter to committee chair Jason Chaffetz calling Conway’s remarks “a textbook violation of government ethics laws and regulations enacted to prevent the abuse of an employee’s government position.”
He calls Conway’s breach of ethics rules “jaw-dropping” and wants the committee to take action:
Since the Committee has direct jurisdiction over the ethics laws applicable to White House employees, I request that the Committee make an official referral of this matter to the Office of Government Ethics and request that it report back to the Committee as soon as possible with its findings.
For the record, Chaffetz was asked about Trump’s Nordstrom tweet yesterday and said he didn’t see the big deal about it.
Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington has already filed an ethics complaint against Conway.
Cummings needs to shut up and worry about his own corrupt leaks that were exposed by Wikileaks. Political correctness will not save him with Trump’s DOJ in charge.

I find it amusing that the little traitors just keep exposing themselves and put a target on their foreheads. Saves Sessions time and energy in deciding who to look at first when it comes to draining the swamp of corruption..

It is a trivial thing, but they are likely correct. As a government employee, she really shouldn’t be going on TV and recommending that people buy things from the Ivanka’s company.
Don’t need an ethics complaint. Just someone say “hey, you shouldn’t do that”. I’m sure she’ll understand when she thinks about it.

No need to cut and run on this. Her job is political. She was countering what she believes to be a politically motivated boycott, not trying to make a Trump rich. To understand the difference, consider what would have happened if a Tea Party person had urged GM to boycott “Tyrone’s Chevy,” a hypothetical black-owned auto dealer, for political reasons, and Obama had countered “Buy from Tyrone!” Do you think his crowd would be fleeing from this comment? No way.
Chaffetz is referring Conway to the Ethics board, not crushing this stupidity.

An employee shall not use his public office for his own private gain, for the endorsement of any product, service or enterprise, or for the private gain of friends, relatives, or persons with whom the employee is affiliated in a nongovernmental capacity, including nonprofit organizations of which the employee is an officer or member, and persons with whom the employee has or seeks employment or business relations. The specific prohibitions set forth in paragraphs (a) through (d) of this section apply this general standard, but are not intended to be exclusive or to limit the application of this section.

Kellyanne Conway received no private gain for her remarks. Read the law, she did not break he law. Cummings is an @ss, I’m hoping Chaffetz is playing rope a dope on this: “We investigated, no laws broken, case closed. Now go to h*ll, you dumb@ss.”
