FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE February 07, 2017
WASHINGTON American Federation of Government Employees National President J. David Cox Sr. today issued the following statement about the nomination of Betsy DeVos for Secretary of the Department of Education:
The best agency leaders are those who are focused on creating an environment where employees have the tools and resources they need to advance the missions of their agencies. Unfortunately, its clear that Betsy DeVos, the nominee for Secretary of the Department of Education, does not value, nor is she motivated to carry out the agencys mission. DeVos has been an outspoken opponent of our public-school system. Rather than work to improve the education system that our democracy needs to create active, engaged and competitive citizens, DeVos has spent her career doing the exact opposite. We stand in solidarity with the American Federation of Teachers who rightly pointed out that DeVos has no meaningful experience in the classroom or in our schools.
The governments work is complex and touches nearly every American every day. We need leaders who understand the mission of the agency they lead and appreciate the role that government employees play in carrying out that work. President Trump ran on a platform of draining the swamp, but its clear that DeVos who proudly has said she expects a return on her investment of donations to Republicans is the wrong choice and could negatively impact a generation of students. We encourage members of the U.S. Senate to vote against the confirmation of Betsy DeVos.
Translation: It’s all about the unions (not the kids).
And there is what is wrong with America’s “schools”.
That statement alone confirms the right choice.
What goobledy-gook. Her mission is to help the states educate children. That is the general framework. How she does it is up to President Trump and her.
Would not wait up waiting for Trump to tweet a response to the American Federation of Government Employees. Mr. Cox will soon notice however that there will soon be fewer members in his “Federation”.
Tough! Get over it! We won, you lost!!!
Thanks. You saved me from reading the statement!
Now CAIR is being called into Elementary schools in the United States to indoctrinate students against islamophobia.
To AFGE .... FOAD!
Yes it is. During her confirmation hearing, I wish she would have asked for a show of hands regarding Senators that had their kids in public schools, Followed by an explanation of why we need vouchers so the ‘less fortunate’ kids can go to their private schools.
My Statement: The best federal agency leaders are those who, if the agency is unconstitutional like the Dept of Education, begin immediately to dismantle the agency.
Apply the Holman Rule on these 67,000. Guaranteed the herd will be a lot thinner after that:
Can you give me a quote on today’s riot rates?
I thought you had it...
Government workers are the last bastion of unions. Everywhere else union membership numbers have declined to a small minority of workers in various industries. Which is to be expected since government workers, like union members, are not required to actually work at much.
“DeVos has been an outspoken opponent of our public-school system.”
That’s certainly not true.
These guys have a huge conflict of interest and they see reform or improvement as being an opponent of the public-school system. When it is not, just the opposite in fact.
DeVos is no radical could have been appointed by Jeb or Hillary and in the same position under Jeb or Hillary administration with guarded optimism by this same group.
