If only we had a State GOP capable of targeting elections, we could have taken back the State House.

Because it part of the National Labor Relation Act-a federal law passed in the mid 1930s. The collective bargaining agreement covers all members of the bargaining unit whether they pay union dues or not. And yes, many union activists call non dues paying workers who are covered by the contract but refuse to join the union free riders.

Illinois is trying on a county by county basis to move toward RTW. Unfortunately, unions and Democrats using the courts to stop it. Ohio is likewise attempting this.

Liberals cognitive dissonance, crazy hypocrisy and selective memory never fails to amaze. “Free riders” you say? So it’s a problem for 14M or so union members in the U.S., but not when it comes to half the ENTIRE population regarding taxes and such.

Look through my posts here for the last 17 years. No liberal here. I just don’t understand why the law would be this way.

If I hire on in a place that has a union, I should be free to make my own deal.

Hi. No union activist here. I don’t like unions ... but citing the bullshit federal law doesn’t answer a question like - does this make any sense? is it good and right?

If I hire on at a place that has some union employees and some non-union employees, I should be able to make my own deal.

Federal law should give unions no special power. If a group of people decide to form a union, their employer should be able to bargain with them, or fire them.

If a union survives, and makes a deal with the employer, people who did not join the union should have to make their own deals.

What a lot of confused bullshit has been unleashed by these terrible federal laws.

As a conservative with libertarian (small l) leaning

I could not agree with you more. At the college that I work,
it was actually the administration that wanted the faculty in a union. They did not have to deal with 65 individuals each negotiating their own salary and benefit package. They only needed to negotiate one contract for all the employees.

Thanks for this reply!

It certainly appears to me that Right to Work is exactly and only a union-busting law.

But since the unions have insane powers under terrible federal law, I suppose right to work makes sense, in a twisted way.

I could not agree with you more.

I was president of a college faculty union and my team and I negotiated a good contract for both the college and the faculty. Surprisingly, some college and university presidents actually encouraged unionization of the faculty-one contract for all faculty members,no separate contacts for each member.
The administration loved it. They could spend more time what they do best-figure out ways to hire more administrators.
