Clean-up crews are racing to clear acres of debris at the largest Dakota Access protest camp before the spring thaw turns the snowy, trash-covered plains into an environmental disaster area.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced Friday that the camp, located on federal land, would be closed Feb. 22 in order to prevent injuries and significant environmental damage in the likely event of flooding in this area at the mouth of the Cannonball River in North Dakota.
Without proper remediation, debris, trash, and untreated waste will wash into the Cannonball River and Lake Oahe, the Corps said in its statement.
Those involved in the clean-up effort, led by the Standing Rock Sioux, say it could take weeks for private sanitation companies and volunteers to clear the expanse of abandoned tents, teepees, sleeping bags, blankets, canned food, supplies and just plain garbage littering the Oceti Sakowin camp.

Where Did All The Money Come From?
“Without proper remediation, debris, trash, and untreated waste will wash into the Cannonball River and Lake Oahe, the Corps said in its statement.”
The stated purpose of the protest was the assertion that the pipeline crosses the Missouri River, which supplies water to the reservation, and they were worried about a spill contaminating their drinking water.
Libs don’t get the concept of irony, do they?
Yep, I hunted and camped for many years and always left the area as clean or cleaner than it was before I arrived.
Log everyone leaving, including those arrested earlier, and send them collectively a bill. If the group can’t come up with the total, subpoena all of their financial data to find our who’s been financing their occupations (Steyner?) and send them the bill, ideally with a RICO tripling.
Then they lecture the rest of the country on the ecology.
Remember the piles of trash they left at the 2008 Obama inauguration?
Then the Occupy Wall Street movement trashed the area they occupied in NY City.
And just two weeks ago the Women's March on Washington left their piles of trash for others to clean up.
Many Indians were superb warriors.
Noble... not so much.
The idea of the “noble savage” is a myth.
Indians could not afford cleanup and being environmentally sensitive. They lived in a feast or famine environment. Many dies of famine in the winter.
If your read actual accounts of most Indian tribes, life was hard, brutal, and short.
So, like an underground pipeline is going to hurt that area.
Being responsible means being conservative. The left doesn’t have or want that yoke applied to them.
I doubt that anybody left their own sleeping bags and tents there.
Which - proves that these types of protests are funded by well-organized and wealthy outside agitators.
I looked at the article, the story has been around for a couple days. Interestingly, she’s married to a special forces officer. Got a feeling this guys career is over.

Click on images. You will see photos. Kind of hard to tell the trash from the protestors camp site.
