UPMC has been able to corner about 80% of the market here in Western PA by buying out hospitals and medical practices over a number of years. It’s as close to a monopoly as one could imagine.
One of the few things I can agree with our Left-Wing Mayor about is that UPMC is NOT a non-profit (he has major issues with the massive amount of property they own which is tax-exempt).
