I suggest that if the school administration publicly expelled the top 20% most violent of the protesters (based on multiple video sources and eye witnesses) the outbreaks would stop. The administration would have to be committed to defending the expulsions for years in court regardless of the costs and take on the paid ACLU vultures that would come after them The one thing those kids and their parents would understand is losing their degree from Berkeley. If they knew it was conditional on their not engaging in violent behavior the chaos would stop in a heartbeat.
I don’t think that the main instigators are students. They are professional anarchists. Probably getting paid. If they are able to get within two blocks of the venue with professional grade fireworks and Molotov cocktails then the cops are not doing their job. Maybe it’s time to call in the motorcycle clubs.
